I am in the process of selling my current 2011 style 1911 and I just got a bonus from work so I have a surplus of cash that I would like to turn into a very nice singlestack 1911.

I have a 1,200$ maximum budget, but that doesn't necessarily mean I want to spend all of it. My use of the piece would be for a range toy and nightstand duty. Looking at fullsize (5") frames. Night sites would be a plus but I've never heard of them coming from the factory on a 1911? I want it to be as accurate as possible on this budget.

I'm sure everyone is going to rush in saying Dan Wesson, Les Baur or even Kimber, these are all fine choices and I'm sure they're great, but my question is what makes them 5-6-700$ better than an off the shelf Springfield?

Also while I have everyones attention what are the reccomendations for magazines? I seem to remember Wilson Combat being all the rage a few years ago, still true? Do the 8 rounders feed as well as the standard 7 round ones?

Les Baer, WC and DW are all out of my budget apparently :wtc:

DW Valor is close but 1,500 is more than I can spend on one toy.

'splain how you get a bonus and sell a 2011 and only have $1200 for a new 1911. Unfortunately $1200 does not buy a lot of 1911 anymore in the "nice" range.

this is when i would normally spit out some jibber jabber about STI and what not but after receiving a brand new gun from the factory that totally took a shit on me (bbl link broke after 14 rnds) im going to say that their quality control fell off a bit after shotshow and if i were you, id expand my budget a bit more, and have a gunsmith build one to your specs.

I have a DW Pointman. If I did it again I'd pick up another DW. I want a Valor...BAD.

Do it. You'd be the 4th person on here with it (me, austin911, hsmith). I'd wait until they change the coating (non painted) and grips (to g10 so they dont soak up oil).

    yeah, that's not a 2011, this is a 2011...

2011's (aka M1911) are STI or SVI, with the modular frame/grip design.

Springfield doublestack 1911, I was told all of the double stack 1911 frames were just called 2011s. Either way, 500$ for it and another 700$ bonus from work = 1200.

$500 is a very good price on that springfield wide body (wide body or double stack would be a better term.) Hope if was to a good friend.
