Ever since I got serious (in my mind) about photography, I decided a change was needed. That change includes more of a focus on what I want to do -- photography, mainly weddings, etc. -- and less focus on being a *company man* and trying to move up in a company that could cut me down in a heartbeat and devastate my financial well being if I don't do one thing they like.

So for the last 2 1/2 months I've been looking for a little less stressful job and less of a management role than I have now... I manage an automotive shop, been w/ the company for 10 years. I've looked into doing inside/outside sales w/ companies that do commercial/fleet sales and don't deal w/ John Q. Public. Can't be too hard to find a job like that w/ management and sales experience, right? Well, after 2 1/2 months and about 30 resumes dropped, I get 2 phone calls the same day and I have 2 interviews tomorrow. 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon. I'm hoping something works out soon, because the more I start booking, the more important my weekends become to me. Until this photography thing takes off, I need me a stable income to support my habits and my family.

I thought about becoming the next adamlewis, but camera shops don't pay anywhere near what I make. Not to mention, I don't have enough 'knowledge' for them. :mamoru:

I had a similar thing when i started persuing my education again. It always felt like i was being treated with suspicion because i was going from management to part time retail etc, and i got passed over for dozens of jobs i could have done standing on my head!

and honestly, thats why I'm not looking for retail jobs. I've done retail in some form and fashion for most of my life and I don't want to pursue it any longer. I'm looking for more of a account specialist, commercial sales, etc. just because I pretty much handle a $2 million dollar "account" right now w/ my store managing people, doing operations, hiring, etc. I just want something w/ banker hours, same or maybe a little less money, and a little piece of mind when I come home and want to take the weekend off. Not hard to want, but hard to find. :hs:

Its been so long that I've actually interviewed for a job, I'm curious how its going to go. for about 6 years, I've been on the side that's interviewing... so I hope I can see the angles they're coming to me at. :noes:

Im trying to do the wedding/event photog thing too. Hopefully it turns into a full time gig. The good thing about it is that Im not going in alone. I never finished school and havent been making too much money so if it takes off it will be a real accomplishment for me.

After the first BIG gig, im going to take you guys out for drinks!

Hope it all goes well for you! If you want to stay in the automotive managment field, I know the president of Carquest very well. I'd be happy to send him your resume.

    Seriously?

Why do you feel the need to be such a bitch? Is it such a big deal that one of my jobs is working part-time at a camera store so that I can get 40% off of Canon products?
Im sorry Ive done something successful with photography and you feel the need to cut on me.
