OK. I've started looking at new cell phones. :eek3:

My bf is pushing LG's 8100. I was messing around with the phone the other day and it looks pretty cool, but I would appreciate all of your expert (or quasi-expert!) opinions.

    Thanks in advance!

The 8100 is a great phone, but you might want to consider the Samsung A970 if you have deep enough pockets. It launched this week exclusively at Best Buy. It has a 2 megapixel camera with optical zoom, Bluetooth, EVDO, and just about everything else you could want.

In terms of stability and reliablilty,

    Moto > Samsung > LG

    Thanks for those suggestions.

The features I care most about are camera and blue tooth. I heard the camera works really well on the 8100 and that you can put videos up as your wallpaper, which I think is really cool. I also like that you can load MP3s onto the phone... I am such a mess when it comes to these things!!

On the CDMA side? Oh yea. Samsung is allways buggy and LG, their new line has been champs but I can't trust them yet.

And the top of any list for reliability would be Sanyo anyways.

If you care about camera, the samsung 970 is without a doubt your best option.

If you honestly believe LG has the best quality - you have not spent nearly enough time with mobile phones. They've improved ALOT with their latest line - but that's because they had alot of catching up to do. You don't improve that much without any stumbling blocks - a number of their phones still have had some major software issues - a failure rate that's acceptable, but not great.

I heard that there has already been a software upgrade for the 8100 and that a lot of the bugs are fixed... I was checking out some of the cell phone review forums and people that got the upgrade seem really psyched about their phones. (Maybe even a little TOO psyched--lol!).

I'll have to go play around with some phones in the store this weekend!!

well I dunno about sprint....but every Moto I've sold would ALWAYS have issues except the original v60. The C333, T720 were the worst.

Dude I work in tech support for Verizon so I think I have a little better idea than you which phones have problems and which don't. Every manufacturer has their issues, but for a while now the LG's have had the least problems. The Motorola E815 has been good so far, but the Moto v265 was so bad we couldn't even keep the warranty replacments in stock. The only reason I would even consider a Motorola over an LG would be if I lived in a marginal reception area. The Moto's do seem to have the most sensitive RF performance and do a good job holding a signal in weak areas. That being said I love my LG VX8100. It has worked perfectly since I've owned it and I would reccommend it to anyone looking for a high tier phone.

i was on the phone for 2 hours with verizon last week trying to get a new phone for my girlfriend and i, because the reception was shitty on the LG phones we got. we got no where with verizon and i told them to basicly fuck off. why do they have to be dicks about giving people new phones if they work like shit....im not gonna pay full price for a phone. they are mass produced and there is no need to charge that much for a phone. what can i do to get a new phone without paying full price?

edited cause I sound too much like an ass and I'm too tired not to -

I'm confident that I'm at least as qualified as you if not more so - that's said I'm confident about my belief's on LG.

You would be suprised on how small the profit line is on CDMA phones.

the phones that sprint gets from LG are very different it seems from verizon. VZW must have some kind of agreement with them or something b/c LG is ALWAYS solid with vzw, not so much with sprint. I've had experience with vzw and LG, so I agree with the other guy. Just b/c you work for sprint doesn't mean you're the be all end all authority.

Unless they are defective and can get exchanged through the warranty exchange process you are probably looking at full price until your next upgrade date. The discounted prices of those phones is below cost so you can only get one discount per contract term. You could always try ebay, but be careful alot of stolen equipment ends up there and is useless if it has been reported. Sorry I can't help you further but we only have access to west coast accounts at our office.
