I've finally made up my mind. I'm just going to get out and go on terminal leave in November. I had some questions about the MGIB kicker.. $600 for an additional $200 per month? Is that how that works? As far as the MGIB goes, you get that monthly right? So I could be signed up for a semester and attend school full time (12 credits right?) and get $1200 monthly? So basically pocket all that after tuition has been paid initially.

So my plan is to go to school full time and just milk the MGIB. I have a whole year to play with in this area (long story). I am about 20 credits short for my associates right now. Currently enrolled for Computer Science, but the courses are fucking hard as shit.. I'm really good at computers, but the whole programming shit is like learning Chinese to me.

They don't allow leave in conjunction with a 72/96 around here. You gotta burn leave on the holiday weekend if you want to extend your vacation.

You should also rate 20 days PTAD for "house/job hunting" in conjunction with your terminal leave. If you are staying in the local area, they break it down into 4 "fives" so the weekends don't count as PTAD days. I went PTAD on 13 Aug in conjunction with 90 days terminal leave that starts Sept. Sold my remaining 20 days back to have some "toy" money.

You do not get your Honorable Discharge certificate until your 8 years is up. This includes IRR service if you get out before your 8 years.
You may still have an HD Discharge, you just wont have the cert.

Good move. Might as well get that out of the way without really feeling it.

So does anyone know exactly how much more you get for doing the buy-up(kicker) on the MGIB? As of Oct 1 2007, it's $1101 for full time students.. this figure doesn't include the buy-up though. I've tried searching through the MGIB VA website, but can't find shit.

Go to your base education center and talk to the people there. Ask about the Kicker program for the MGIB.

    1) Someone there will get you to fill out a form in front of them.
    2) You'll take that form to the finance office. They will ask you how much you want to contribute per month, and it has to be in increments of $20.
    3) They make a copy and will enter it in the computer system. They will also sign the form with the date you started it, and how much you will contribute per month.
    4) You take the form back to the education office, and they will keep one copy. You will need to make sure you have a copy just in case the VA wants proof later on.

Thats how it went for me. I should see my first $20 deduction at the end of this month :x:

With the kicker you get an additional $5400 on top of the GIBill.. it's an increase of $150 per month. So a full time student would get $1251.00/monthly from the GIBill. Worth every penny.
