I saw this posted at another forum by ISP2605, a retired leo who posts really good information and doesn't just blow smoke like most people on the innertubes. Someone was asking if they are caught carrying in Illinois if its a felony or "just" a misdemeanor. I've seen the same kind of discussion here, especially regarding the old "better judged by..." business. I think its worth posting a bit about the reality of the situation.

Anyone who thinks a Class A misdemeanor is a blow off is fucking retarded.

after all that, it's probably just cheaper to move to a state with carry laws and find a new job than to risk it.

Course, you're looking at almost the exact same scenario if you have to use your gun, and there is even a slight amount of question of it being justifiable, or you live in a stat with shitty personal defense laws.

    My thoughts...

You'll be held in the same cell as drunks, fighters, child molesters, murderers, and whoever else just got arrested.
Not necessarily true especially if there are violent offenders they will NOT be held in genpop.

If you decide to fight the charge and go to trial then you can expect attorney fees to top 6 figures, win or lose, that is if you can find an attorney who will take your case.
Bull crap no trial for a misdemeanor will run you 6 figures

Also not being about to find an attorney to take your case...Is that a joke? You can always find an attorney.

That all depends if the appellate court even agrees to hear your appeal.
Ineffective counsel appeals happen all the time and are very common.

But say you pay your attorney enough money and you find a sympathetic judge to grant an expungement. It's never really expunged.
This is 100% true. Expungement means nothing there are so many third-party databases that hold this information and just because the clerk's record is expunged doesn't mean I couldn't find it :o

But someday they'll find out, probably from a neighbor kid who will tease them that their dad is a "criminal".
    That's pushing it...

Either way it's stupid to carry without a permit and break the law.

A misdemeanor is not a slap on the wrist, pay a fine and move on, like a parking or speeding ticket.

Depends on how the legislature has set the laws.

FL has very good carry and self-defense laws.

I have a fair amount of experience in all of the above matters.

Currently a 2nd year law student as well.

I try not to talk about my work experience and such on OT sorry.

L4zy knows me personally and can vouch for my experience, training, and education.

I believe it is the same in Missouri. if found that it was a justifiable homicide, you cannot have civil suit brought against you.

I work at a jail right now. He is right about processing and the smell. For our jail though, they sit you in an open waiting area where they have 48 hours to process you. Drunks get put in so called "drunk tanks," where they stay until they sober up. Only people who are violent while they are processing are put in isolation cells or "the chair." Its really an interesting place to work and see from the non-inmate side.

    The smell is pretty gross...

It's a mixture of piss, poop, semen, BO, and then some weird funk.

We have some interesting people here in Vegas. Its pretty easy to tell the tourists apart though, they are the ones crying that they are missing thier flight because they got drunk and did some stupid shit.

    Bologna sandwiches don't help...
