i really need to learn how to better utilize PS, cause the ballroom shots needs a touch from someone that knows what they're doing, not just guessing, and fumbling through it... Particularly #3. :hs:

i don't think it's a post processing issue. you're at an event, and you're not catching any particularly interesting moments. nor are you catching anything that makes the event specific, who are the special people here? why is this event being held? i think these need to be obvious if the images are to be valuable to anyone who isn't intimately involved with the event itself. one trick to do this is with photo-narrative. tell us a provocative story and the images will grab our attention, although this only goes so far. i think there are greater compositional issues.

the other landscapes lack a subject, or maybe there isn't enough background information provided to let me know that i'm looking at something special or unique. why are these structures half in the ice? they seem to exist in a context-less plane, so then i have to reduce the image to pure geometry/form/light. in this case, i'd crop the images much tighter and perhaps do some rotation, being cognizant of the frame.

hmm... i'll keep that in mind. Thanks...

As far as the ice, and the building in particular are concerned, it's part of an old pier that had been on the shore of lake superior, and was abandoned. Most of it is below water, or in this case, ice. The others, i definitely see your point. Most of these are just shots of friends, guys from my platoon. Since you don't know them there's no intrinsic interest for someone other than myself, and those that are in the photos... thus they become a matter of geometry. Thanks for the pointers :hs:

it lacks character, just scrolling through these and didn't really stop at any particular one. work on composition a little more and framing. 13 has potential I just might've gone wider and brought more sky into the pic lowering the horizon

I'll try and find something out for you.

i'm not so sure it would have helped... there's nothing but lake and sky beyond it. no reference points to speak of... just a vast desert of water.
