Thought about it but I'm not on a sniper team, not into comp shooting, or anything else like that. Spending 6k on a gun like that? I'd rather get a couple fun guns like something from spikes tactical that I can convert to 223 as well and have a silencer for.

    223!

I took my 308 out today and @ 700 yards I managed 21 rounds in 5 hours... Plenty recoil and I think anything bigger is both idiotic and excessive.

At least 223 is plesant to shoot and shoot and shoot

ye but I would rather have something fun to shoot than something that you hate pulling the trigger on.

I might sell my setup for something smaller

You just reminded me, I have a .22 mag rifle in pieces right now in my closet. I took it apart like a month ago to refinish the stock. I'm going to go finish that now :o

I've been thinking a savage 110FP in 300winmag would be a good start. Then add optics, new stock and you're good to go. The 10fp is in 308...

:wtf: at people complaining about the recoil on a .308.

Try shooting a bunch with a mosin and then come back and bitch.

I have a .338 Steyr that will drop really large antelopes / wildebeest dead in their tracks, but I will not call it a long distance rifle. Heavy (hunting) bullet drop at long distance is a major issue for me, which caused me to get a .308 for the longer shots.
A day at the range with a .338 will tender up the shoulder :eek3: (but then..... cowboys don't cry ;)).

I checked into getting a long range gun chambered in either .338 Lapua Magnum or the 'poor man's .338', the .338 Rem. Ultra Mag. After checking out ammo prices, I decided to change my mind. It's out-fucking-ragous.

    .338 Lapua = about $4.50/round
    .338 Rem. Ultra = about $2.60/round

    Fuck that! :nono:

Now, if you got into reloading them (which I would probably do for distance shooting)

    Brass:

    .338 Lapua = $1.72/casing
    .338 Rem. Ultra = $.59/casing

    Bullet:

.338 (I'd guess this works for either, I'm no reloading expert) = $.23/bullet

Let's assume you have the appropriate primers, powder, and reloading equipment, not counting your time:

    .338 Lapua = about $1.95/round
    .338 Rem. Mag = about $.82/round

    Savings:

    .338 Lapua = $2.55/round
    .338 Rem. Mag = $1.78/round

Lets say a decent, average reloading setup costs $1,000 (I'm guessing here), you would have to reload approx...

    .338 Lapua = 400 rounds
    .338 Rem. Mag = 600 rounds

...to make up the savings of buying the reloading equipment. That doesn't really seem like that much, now that I wrote it all out. :noes:

Fuck this, I'm getting into reloading. :wiggle:

*All prices were based on a quick run-through of the cheapest stuff I could find on Midwayusa.com*

You can't really neglect to include powder price when figuring out round cost, especially when you're burning close to 100grs per round :hsugh:
