granted, the big 3 are being assholes as well, by potentially not following through on their contracts.

but if the delphi bankrupcy causes the pensions of delphi to be shifted to GM, GM will likely declare bankrupcy. GM! BANKRUPCY! that is just BANANAS :eek4:

the whole system is fucked. but until labor and the companies can stop working actively against each other, the future of the US auto industry is grim indeed.

    :noes:

    it's mentioned here:

    http://www.freep.com/money/autonews/gm11e_20051011.htm

i'll look for something more concrete - i've heard about it on the radio more than reading it online.

the bottom line is previous GM employees who tranferred to delphi might try and rely on GM for their pension benefit... which would saddle GM with something like another $100 million

Unions in the United States are well on their way to negotiating all of their members right out of a job.

    Well done. :ugh2:

No Delphi is a seperate entity now, but because GM once had it under its ownership, GM is liable of some of the expenses if Delphi files for bankrupcy.

    thats what i'm getting at.

they're securing short term benefits for their members, but wrecking the companies that they rely on for employment.

They've also helped subsidize poor workmanship and mediocrity for decades.

    yes.

but what can the industry do? they're in contracts with the UAW. they can't just throw them out, they have to take the hit.

and they can't just fire all the UAW employees (or renew contracts, or whatever) without cutting production, which means they'd have less income, which would fuck them even worse.

it's a deal with the devil.
