Anyone here involved in running their own ISP? I'm curious as I am looking into what it takes to do so.

you didnt put much thought into this, but for a wired solution will run in the millions of dollars. wireless its the cheap way to go. Still need to pay for at least some static routed wired connection like a ds3.

optimal way is to have dual + homed connection that is 10x greater than the planned average utilization of bandwidth, have a monopoly on wired circuitry (own a clec and have a dslam in there, cable company, or do some bpl). this will cost millions of dollars which you most likely dont have. But if you do, hire me and ill break you out :)

I didn't put thought into it? I believe you are mis-interpreting what I am asking a little.

You can go to larger companies and basically buy a piece of their already setup networks and run your own service, much like franchising. And I was curious if anyone has done this.

I wasn't asking how much will it cost to actually wire and setup a new infrastructure in a town/city - that really doesn't take a lot of thought lol.

It all depends on how experienced you are. If you know how to setup the various equipment, then it should be easy, if not, then well, it's not going to be that easy.

you could look at becoming a clec or reseller... but that's complicated.

Right now I'm more or less just trying to get an idea from someone that's doing this.
