Well I have read the ultimates, which was amazing (1,2) and had an adult tone

read an issue or two of ultimate spiderman and ultimate x men, seems kind of kiddy for me, dealing with highschool and stuff.

Does the tone change or get more interesting later on? (i read the earliest issues of spiderman and x men)

Its more of a reboot so you do not have to know 20+ years of backstory to get everything outa the book.

    Ultimate Spiderman is fantastic btw.

the ultimates is definitely not for kids.
but ultimate spiderman and x-mean I can see having a lot of appeal to kids.

I wouldn't say it's targeted at kids/teens, but it sure does appeal to them. I mean, shit, they did the whole "different universe, new beginning" shit to get new readers, specially young ones. After all, most of us did start reading comics at a really young age.

But there's more Ultimate there than the main titles. Check out the Fantastic Four version. It's good, up until the recent 10+ issues :hs:
There's also Ultimate War, Ultimate Daredevil & Elektra, Ultimate Adventures etc... All up on WarSkrull by the way :o

But out of the two that ytou mentioned, X-Men's the least "kid" oriented.

ultimate spidey is set at a highschool age but the thing is him dealing with constant adult related problems. Which is why it draws in both crowds. He taks and acts very adult for his age although more 15 16 year olds dont fight evil goblins that used to be there best friends dad.

But it's still better than no ultimate Daredevil and Elektra. Although we didn't really need Elektra :hsugh:
