I am looking for a receiver for a system in a second room. I already have a Denon AVR-4800 which I love but am hoping to spend less for this second system. :x: The speakers are Cambridge Soundworks MC series that are built into the walls and I am not thinking that I need a high powered amplifier however I am not sure about THX. We will mostly watch Widescreen DVDs on this set (Sony XBR - LCD Projection 50 inch) and I have been really spoiled by how good the Denon sounds. Any suggestions? Is THX that important? :wiggle:

if you already have the 4800 and downgrade to something else, even though it's in a different room, you just won't like it. my 2 cents, but you won't. for the thx certified equipment, lucas doesn't have one piece of thx certified piece of equipment in his house...

These days sadly the THX name is mostly a gimmick. I have seen cables marked as THX, and even the new Need For Speed video game is "THX approved".

Quite frankly, some of the best equipment out there hasn't been "approved" by THX, and it is probably better equipment too, due to the fact that they dont have to pay Lucas licensing fees.

I could not find ONE specification that computer speakers had to conform to to get the THX certification on them, go figure.

THX used to mean something good but don't get too focused on it.

Some manufactuers don't need another company to tell them they're good while others just don't want to pay up for THX certification because they know the speakers will sell themsevles.
