If you're into gaming... hell no. Get at least a 6600GT ~ $200+, cheaper if used. If you're not into gaming, it'd be fine. You might spend twice as much for the 6600 GT but it'll be good for at least 2-3 years since it can run the features now showing up games.

the whole FX5xxx series is crap, if you want to stay in that price range go with an ATI 9xxx series, if not like someone else said ... best bang for buck card out there right now is the 6600GT.

That was my old card, didnt need to upgrade it, still runs games beautifully, but i figured why not, got a great deal for the 9800XT.

I had a Gainward TI4200 128MB...The RAMDAC died, but that thing was KILLER when it worked.

I dearly miss that thing. It OCed like a banshee too, way beyond Ti4600 speeds, even with TSOP RAM.

    EDIT:
The RAM went up to like 325 or something without heatsinks, and the core did a solid 315 or something.

Apparently the GeForce cards have had tweaks set in to fudge results on the common benchmark tests. I can't back that up as this info was from a friend, but I seem to remember reading it myself on tomshardware or another similar tech site.

The GeForce cards have crappy coolers that are usually loud. They are expensive for what you get, and no the whole the Radeon X cards are way better X850 XT if you can afford it.

Look up and benchamark site and you will see that the Radeon cards kick ass, and cost a lot less.

    Trust me on this one

FX series does suck. Im running my AMD Athlon 64 3k winchester w/ 1gb ram @400/3200 w/ a fx5200 and Im only getting 60 fps on CSS. Thats pretty lame.

    Only 60fps? I'm pushing that much on a 2600+, dual channel PC3200, and a Radeon 9700 Pro.

    That's quite impressive.

If you ran on his settings your card would get over 100fps.

Not for me. I have a 60Hz LCD monitor, and VSYNC is forced on for all my 3D stuff.

I would never game without it.

wow really, but VSYNC is so slow. I don't really mind the odd horizontal tear, I run my games at 72hz and get them a fair bit, ive always hated VSYNC because it slows things down so much.

What kind of card do you have? It doesn't even affect my gameplay on my 9700 Pro.

I have an X800 XT and have never used VSYNC on it because it use to slow things down heaps on my old 5700. Maybe I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

It won't be hard on an X800 series card at all, not even the X800SE.
