Is this too many exercises for chest/tricep days?

    I just got back from the gym and I have been doing these exercises for chest/tricep days. Was wondering if there is anything you guys would change or take out. Thanks in advance. I pretty much work off a 5x5 for major lifts as I have seen it works the best for what i want to do.

    Incline bb press (135x5, 155x5, 175x5, 185x5, 155x5)
    Flat bb press (205x5, 225x5, 245x5, 235x5, 225x5)
    Dips (4x12)
    Tricep pushdowns (70x10, 80x10, 90x10)
    Close grip flat bb press(185x5, 195x5, 205x5, 185x5, 185x5)
    and today i had some more energy so i did 2 more sets of dips to failure (15 reps and 10 reps)

    Oh, my goal is to lose weight while maintaining or building some muscle. I know its a hard way to do it..but ive been on this mission since october 2007 but didnt really get serious until jan 2008. I went from 235 to 211 today. I want to get under 200 by october.

  2. Why do you do 5 reps for everything? At the highest weight you should do it until failure...unless this is just a general workout regime.

    yea general workout regime. ive done a 4x8 and a 3x10. im trying to get strong and the 5x5 base is working well for me. yea, at 245, the last rep is usually where i lock up right before full extension and i have to push that one out. i was up to 275x3 but i dont have a spotter anymore so im gonna work myself up there slowly. 5 lbs increase a week or so.

    edit: The only thing that looks weird to me is that you had enough strength to go this heavy on Close grip bb press. But my chest/triceps are weak and i probably don't bench right :o

    in purevl's thread he mentioned doing DB Flys to pre-exhaust chest. Maybe try that if you feel like your chest Wo is lagging.

    based on your body weight, you should be able to do more weight on every lift

    yea, id like to push more weight, its just that my left arm isnt 100% percent so its lacking. its the tendon from the shoulder to the bicep that hurts sometimes... given that, its no excuse. i will push higher weight soon. and ill try out the db flys in the beginning.sounds like a good idea.

    ill sometimes throw 5x5 decline in there depending if the bench is being used or not but its not something ill do regularly..anymore.

    :werd: the arms are always the ones to fail first and hurt like motherfuckers.. its so hard to really isolate the chest

    I tend to do 4 chest and 4 tri exercises on my chest/tri days :dunno: (each exercise consisting of 4 sets)
