 Why not just hand him the gun and take his cash? I've sold cars with less paperwork than that :big grin:

I think I would walk away from the first one even if it was a good deal. Unless I know the person reasonably well I don't want then to have my address or phone number.

Make sure its legal to sell that way. In MD, even private party sales need to go through a FFL to be totally legal. In that way you'll also make sure the transfer of ownership is done right and there is no issue down the road of anyone still thinking you own the gun.

It's Missouri, no California. Name (maybe phone or other contact information), date, serial number, make and model of gun would be more than enough.

I've done the #2 option each time I've sold a gun. It's just peace of mind for me.

FTF not even a name is needed in FL.

So if the gun was used in a murder you'd just say, "Oh, I sold it to some dude on the street. Aint my problem anymore." :ugh:

I never said if it was required or not.

Yup. You'd be getting investigated just the same whether you had a bill of sale or not.

If you're that skeered, just do a transfer at a gun shop.

Of course people do that without a bill of sale too. Its not like you'll have any other ties to the crime. "I don't know Jones, its a dead drug dealer but I think that 30 y/o guy from the office complex in the tie we talked to yesterday that said he sold the gun had to have something to do with it. I mean it was his gun. Lets bring him in." :big grin:

BATF paperwork, NICS check records, dealer paperwork... There's gun registration in this country on new firearms - it's just not official nor overly uniform.

afaik the batf and nics dont give a shit what gun you buy or what it's serial number is. it's only recorded on the 4473 and those documents are supposed to be destroyed after a certain amount of time, i thought.
