should I wait til Christmas is closer?

I'm going to get the g/f a camera, and this seems to be pretty good, but I'm curious if there will be better deals as Christmas nears (ie Black Friday).

edit: Nashville has Wolf Camera, same company IIRC, so I may be able to check it out in person.

I got my D50, 28-80, 70-300, 2GB SD card for $630 shipped. The lenses are new and the body is a Nikon refurb.

    refurb---that's why.

that isn't a bad deal but the thing with ritz/wolf/etc is you should to get the extended warranty because it will cover anything except fire or theft damage. you can basically walk into the store, say your camera is broken, they ask what is wrong with it, you slam it onto the floor and shatter the glass, sensor, etc., and they have to either fix it or replace it. best thing though is to drop it in salt water...no questions asked and you get a new camera after a couple weeks.

ah. sounds like a wal-mart warranty. no ?s asked! is the D40x worthwhile for a beginner? she says she would be ok with a 6 megapixel camera, but i'm thinking might as well go for at least a 10 for a good price. i'm looking into the future when she really gets into photography and would prefer the sharper (?) image.
