Those ebay packages include a lot of junk you really don't need

And yes, the XSi is an excellent DSLR for getting into photography.

The 75-300mm telephoto lens is slow, has poor auto focus, and is not very good optically. All the other "accessories" such as the tripod, UV filters, "wide angle lens", bags, etc are probably worth a combined $20.

I'd say there's probably a $100-150 premium on there for stuff that either will not work, will work really poorly, or you'll never use.

If you really want to spend $900 get the kit I told you above and the Canon 55-250mm telephoto lens:

    http://www.amazon.com/Canon-55-250m...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1227633049&sr=8-1

It's gotten pretty good reviews, is a decent starter telephoto, and brings your total price to $900. Your pictures will be much better with this than with the ebay kit.

There are also plenty of 3rd party lenses (Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, etc) that other members on this board can tell you about, since I have limited experience with those products.
