Just got a new RRA Coyote. I'm going to shoot it for the first time soon and I seem to recall there is some sort of break-in procedure like shoot a round, then run a swab down the barrel, etc.

    Thoughts on this?

most RRA are already broken in from the factory.

  4. The entire idea of barrel break-in is debatable. For a standard AR, it's totally unnecessary. Just perform standard maintenance and you'll be fine.

I agree with this. Bore snake + paper towels + chamber brush for the rest.

Oh and keep your eye on it. The damn things have a fierce bloodlust and if you don't watch it, BAM, you'll have a half dozen dead kids because it snuck out and picked off each of them while they were waiting for the bus. And you can't spank it because it looks at you with that, "are you proud of me? i did this for the family" look.

    Hes the break in procedure.

You first need ~1000 rounds of non-surplus factory loaded ammunition.
You will then need approximately 34 mags to fit all of the rounds.
Go to your nearest outdoor range and set up a target at 50-100 yards away.
Use a few mags to sight in the rifle.

Now to the break in procedure.
Rapid fire all of the rounds carefully until all 34 magazines are expended.

    .

Similar to my philosophy on breaking in a car engine: drive it like you stole it.
