I tried Hauppage as recommended by OTers, but it sucks. I can't get it to work with VirtualDub. So I got another card, and can't quite fit in the PCI card since it's slightly bent at the metal piece..

So I'm thinking of an external recorder like Dazzle for my laptop :dunno: I don't want DVD quality recording, I just need something for TV shows in case they are cancelled.

    Any recommendations?

Capture cards are very picky. Unfortunately the drivers are all over the place. Your best bet is to find a card that people are using with the software successfully, not the other way around.

Yeah, I'm a little confused about the VirtualDub thing as well.

I'm using a Leadtek WinFast TV2000 Expert. With it's TV tuner software it just set it to what format to capture in and it does it. I capture at DVD, or sometimes at SVCD, quality and then worry about encoding it to something else smaller later after the edit is done.

Virtualdub > File > Capture AVI

I found it easy to use :dunno: The software that is usually included is either too bulky or has lack of options like encoding during recording.
