    Vista Home Premium?

Want to just create a partition on my main drive as at the moment I have 183GB of space on the Windows partition. I want to separate it incase I need to reformat, don't want to lose the data on it :hs:

you should be weary of yourself. You don't seem to know too much about this sort of thing.

Its in the SAME place as Win XP, which was in the same place as Win2k. So you're confirmed that you've NEVER done this. So yes, I do know that you don't know what you're doing.

I would say be very careful... Are you planning on partitioning your OS drive?

    I've used partition magic.

So fuck you for being such an elitist fucktard. If you were so sure I didn't have a clue, why post such a useless thing instead of actually trying to help?

Now if you want to help. Its only letting me reduce the partition by 16GB when it has 175GB free. What reason could there be for this?

Did you build your computer? I'm assuming no. If you bought it, some of the companies have shit like that is on the hard drive that if you use the partitioning tools, it fucks it up.

Before we go any further are you looking to partition your OS drive?

    Yes I did build it.

Why do you assume I didn't? Even if I don't know anything about partitioning, it doesn't mean I couldn't build a computer.

I had a bought a computer before and it screwed up cause of that I guess :o

Yes. I know its risk but its 279GB and I'm only using 104GB for Vista and my programs. Incase Vista decides to take a shit again, I want anything I put on the drive to be separate for when I format.

My 500GB WD MyBook is full you see.

so, do you have a single partition taking up the entire drive now and are trying to shrink it or are you just trying to create another partition on unused space?

    Yep.

Got a lot of games on here. And a lot of Design type apps; photoshop, illustrator, lightroom, pro engineer etc.

All adds up. Plus I think Vista is around 12GB or something stupid like that.

I haven't done anything yet. I've learnt not to jump into things like this.

    Cheers for the link 1999TL.

Shrink the volume and try again. It'll tell you up to what size you can make free for another partition. From them on it's self explanatory if you've partitioned a drive before.. Just be careful you don't completely wipe your drive.
