From my understanding the military does not care that much but I do personally know someone who went AWOL when he got orders to deploy. The dude is a complete scum bag and his life consists of working under the table jobs and playing video games.

Well, from my understanding someone tried to report this guy before to local PD. The PD said that so many people go AWOL that they either don't issue a warrant for arrest or they do and no one gives a fuck.

Also, that does bring me to another question. Would you report someone who has been AWOL for years?

yes, yes i would. they signed up and can man up.
and as for the warrant thing, as far as i know warrants get issued on all cases of official awol status personell. ive heard however there are cities that just dont care about that... like seattle.

Well all I have is a first name and I know where he lives until Aug. I might be able to get the last name, who knows if it is real though. His roommates are scared that they will get dragged into it for letting him live there for so long.

id say no. because theyre civilians. but thats just my best guess. if the pd doesnt care, im sure that the mp's would.

again, do what you feel is right based on your personal morals/beliefs. not what we at teh barracks say.

on a related note, are the Marines the only ones that don't use the term "AWOL" anymore?

Depends on the branch he is in... for navy see here (Naval Absentee Collection and Information Center). They might be able to steer you in the right direction for other branches though.

I'd say that the military is better off without him, and all they'd do is either make him man up (which who would want someone like that along side them?) or send him to jail to leach off the system.

Either way I'd say he's in the best place possible, which is out of everyone else's hair but the people willing to take him in.

What I think would be the best thing to do for these types is let them live their lives but treat 'em like felons. Can't own a firearm, can't vote, etc.

military life is not for everyone, honestly. why would you even want this guy back in a uniform or "punished" (i.e. discharged, probably under general conditions)?

let him live his life, he will get pulled over eventually and the cops will arrest him. its none of your business.
