It's far better than you D80 or any Canon for that matter. This will solve your problem with taking shitty pictures.

well you have some decent (i hope) knowledge of cameras, so why don't you take that knowledge and start investigating on the various forums and web pages whose existence is solely dedicated to providing that information and that try to give you a wonderful detailed objective answer?

why is your '"friend" looking at this particular camera? What is it that he's looking to gain from this SLR that puts it above others?

he likes the IS, live view, dust shit, and cheaper price when compared to the xti and d80.

Then he needs a point & shoot.
You don't let price be a factor with SLR's, because the camera itself isn't where the bulk of the cost will be. Your friend sounds like the type who thinks he's going to be the next ansel adams with a kit lens "because it's an slr!"

Here's a link with sample images...

    http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E510/E510A.HTM

I could never recommend anything with a 4/3 sensor, as it's physically smaller than regular digital sensors, which are already small to begin with...

    It's a 2.0 crop factor.

    live view... :ugh:

Oh, and those sample pics... :ugh:

    No problem...

Look at the sample pics of the house... Top row...

Those bushes... You can't even tell they're bushes... They look like blobs of color...

It honestly looks like it was shot with a 4mp point and shoot...
