I have a cell phone that requires outlook to sync the contacts and calendars, just wondering if there is anything opensource that fits the bill. It's a sony ericcson w810i if that make any sort of difference. Thanks.

Try Mozilla Thunderbird + the Lightning plugin, or the Windows Address Book.

There's gotta be a way to use your phone without Outlook.

thunderbird is decent for basic emails.

nothing compares to outlook in overall functionality, however (except for a few products that cost more -- such as lotus notes).
