It's a Maxtor 60GB 7200rpm 2MB drive (model 6E040L0). I can hear it spinning and it's pretty annoying considering my other 2 drives (both WD's) are completely silent. I was searching and was reading about some Acoustic Management software but really couldn't find any links to download anything. Only thing I know of is the power management options to shut them doen when they are not in use but thats not really what I'm looking for. Just a way to make it quieter.

Depending on what kind of noise, I might worry that the drive is dying.

However you can try putting some noise damping materal around it.

Intresting. So he just shoved foam all around the HDD so it's completely enclosed? I might have to try that.

OK, I rigged somthing up really quick similar to that 'HDD sandwich' but have a couple concerns. First the alumminum I had lying around was only about an 1/8th" thick and it's powder coated black on both sides. Will it still dissipate heat or will the black trap heat in? I haven't installed it yet.

K, that didn't work too good :o . Whats a little program I can run in the background of my D: that will keep my HDD running while only my E: shuts off. I tried running Coolmon and DuMeter on my D: but it also turned off when I set it to turn off HDD's in the power management options.
