Is there any reason a C5 Z06 should NOT be my next car?

Seriously...is there any reason why a person wouldn't want to own one? They don't seem to be much more expensive than a standard C5 from the same year and I've never heard anything but praise about their performance. Don't suggest a C6. Out of my price range.

I haven't owned anything "fun" since selling my FD a couple of years ago. I've been looking for something in the high teens, maybe low 20s to serve as a weekend toy/occasional daily. I already have a commuter so practicality isn't really a concern, but I'd like it to at least be somewhat reliable. I've been taking a hard look at 350Zs, but I just can't talk myself into thinking that they're attractive cars. They just look....weird. So now...I'm looking at Z06s.

    Any advice from current/previous owners?

If you're a woman, then it shouldn't be your next car.

Great cars, go for it. I opted for the corvette coupe cause I wanted the removable roof. You'll enjoy the hell out of it

Phenomanal fucking car. I own one. Daily drive it. Love it. Can't even begin to tell you how incredible its performance is at everything, cornering, braking, and acceleration. Put some Nitto 555RII's on it, and the car is AMAZING even in stock form.

A LS3 corvette is NOT a faster car either. A c5z is a far step above a ls2 c6, a z51 ls3 pretty much matches acceleration, but still isn't a cornering machine like the Z is. Beleive it or not, lots of people prefer the C5Z over the C6Z, power aside.
I could go on and more in depth but I wont bore you.
    I might be sellling mine to get a house. :( :( :(

I strongly prefer the looks of the C5 over the C6. It's style reminds me of the FD, which I consider to be one of them most beautiful cars ever built (but I've already been there, done that), and I think I'm one of the very few people in the world who actually likes popup headlights. :dunno:

Thanks for your input. I've been in love with the C5, in all forms, since it was introduced. The C6, not so much. It's completely a subjective thing for me, since I know that the C6 is supposed to be a "better" car, but I don't really have any interest in owning one.

Is your car still stock, or have you made some changes to it?

Love my C5. I got the coupe cuz I wanted a top that comes off, and I figured I could make the same power as a Z06 with minimal mods, and do a suspension swap.

My Z51 has the same front suspension as a Z06, but my roof comes off. Removable roofs kick ass

I have not owned one but have driven many in racing environments.

Be aware that 01 had oil consumption issues with low load high rpm driving... ie cruising around town. The oil ring would flutter and burn oil in those conditions. A new scraper ring solved that in 02.

Saying that I have driven nearly every type of vehicle in a race environment and the Z06 is simply the best out there for bang for the buck and styling. The yellow Z06... shit me... hot as hell. I love the "trunk" C5 style and ended up deciding that I would sacrifice a removable top just to get that look of the trunk C5.

You will not regret this choice in gas mileage, braking, handling and real world performance. The upgraded 2002 really does feel a lot faster (~348RWHP to ~365RWHP).

Many say its louder and harsher of a ride than a C5, but I dig it all around.

Headers and a tune open this car up so well you'll really not want to do much more. Enjoy the wicked gadgetry inside the car as well like the hidden menus on the display that show oil temp, oil pressure etc...

Wicked ass two gas tank system to keep the fuel as baffled as possible, and a host of other cool things.

WHen you get this car go read "all corvettes are red" the book. Awesome bonding with you and the car.

while not a Z06, I do own a '99 FRC and I love it... I've got it lowered as low as you can go on the stop springs/screws... get 31+mpg on the highway... my only gripe is the lack of cupholders, which is something that you can easily fix by getting a double cupholder thing from Wal Mart or Target... works like a charm... probably the most fun daily driver I've ever owned.

I also think the C6 looks better than the C5, but the beauty of life is we can believe whatever we want :bigthumb:
