bought an ipod touch off an OTer in yardsale, waiting for it to arrive

he said it has the latest software pack, that $10 thing that adds weather and email etc

why would i want to jailbreak it?
if i do, what is the best way to do it?
would i lose that software pack?
would i be able to restore that software, or is it linked to his apple account?

Jailbreak it if you want to add all the free applications that are currently available without waiting for the 2.0 firmware to be released. You won't lose anything by jailbreaking it and can restore it to normal at any time easily. Last time around I used inDependence which is a nice one-click jailbreak.

If it's set to automatically sync, which faggots do.

If it has the manual option clicked he should be able to add his itunes onto whatever is already there. I take songs from my other buddies itunes all the time.

so is that $10 software pack that is on there linked to the ipod's serial number or the previous owner's account?

i've got a touch and jailbroke it. i find it to be awesome for cheesy little games. there are a lot of apps that are more appropriate for the iPhone, but plenty of games and stuff for iPod Touch.

Summerboard is great. But I've found that outside of a few stand out apps, most of the stuff on Installer is either worthless or poorly written. Mobile Scrobbler is decent and there are a few ok games. That's about it. The cool factor wore off when you look at the stuff that's coming out on the app store.

i had my ipod touch for about 10 minutes before i jailbroke it and started installing apps and games and tweaks all over the place.

I used ziphone, took about 2 minutes to jailbreak.

i'm just wondering, because if i jailbreak it and decide to restore it...do i lose the software forever? or could i somehow redownload it?

you'll get yo shit back, restore will restore everything. and you wont have to pay, you can always call, verify your account and they will give you a code for a free download.
