Grab a 5lb plate in each hand and jog around your suburb. Do NOT consume transfats. THAT is the secret to massive legs.

Unilateral work other than lunges has a place.

Deads count for leg work, even if they're more whole-body.

    RDL/SLDL, definitely.

Leg press is perfectly acceptable if you can't squat for whatever reason or you're not built well for squatting.

I've picked up a lot of usable strength from dumbbell side lunges for jiu jitsu. :dunno:

I've always gotten great leg workouts out of nothing more than squats (front and rear), lunges, ham curls. Occasionally I'll throw in leg press in exchange for squats or lunges just to switch things up.

I dont know if its superior or not but i enjoy them more than regular lunges. They work the inner leg more and i feel like my guard is a bit stronger since i started doing them. With that said, my jits are not sick yet. I started jiu jitsu in january, so it could just be coincidence.

Ya, i meant strength that translated to something other than lifting, ie. strength i'm using.

instead of just lifting with your legs and gaining mass you could go run some stairs or something. its a different exercise and will give you more muscle endurance rather than doing 20 reps total in a day. after 20 minutes or so the burn is awesome. assuming since you only lift with them that after about 20 stairs you'll be burning :mamoru:
