    :dunno:

I've been having a lot of fun entering in Japanese artist names over at http://www.last.fm/listen

A lot of cool stuff I'd never heard of before. The urban/hip hop stuff took me by surprise. Heartsdales and Bennie K are a couple.

    Anyone?

I searched in the music forum and didn't find anything. Figured I'd ask in here.

What got you started in J-pop?

During my first trip to Little Tokyo in Los Angeles, my friend and I came across a store called J-Wave. It's a Video and Music rental store. I was tripping out that they rented CDs. I was pissed that I lived over 2 hours away and couldn't really rent them without doing a lot of driving.

While I was looking around, I asked who was playing over the store's speakers. Turns out it was Namie Amuro's first album Dance Tracks Vol. 1 and the guy asked me if I wanted to rent it. I told him how I lived a couple hours away, so he offered to record it to a tape for me for $5. hahaha... the tape had a few more minutes on the end of it so he recorded some B'z single on the end of it. haha...

american pop music has pretty much hit rock bottom imo
it has to do mainly with the culture attached to it and i have always been the victim of liking what you do not know of
ive always liked anime songs but nothing i would listen to in the car or something until recently when i was introduced to akijan and aya hirano thanks to the likes of fma and haruhi and others

I love her, but it's ridiculous how blown up Ayumi is. I was listening to an Every Little Thing remix and it included a sample of one of Ayumi's songs - including her singing. :o

    I like your picks there.

I'm listening to YUI right now. Recently discovered High & Mighty Color. I have a lot of Utada Hikaru's stuff too.

    Anyone like Nanase Aikawa?

Ellegarden made me :eek3::bowdown: Perfect take on the genre they're in.

I really dig Homemade and Kick The Can Crew. Add Ketsumeishi to that list too.

I heard one from Mihimaru GT and liked it... I'd like to hear more.

I'm into JPop. I'm a huge Mika Nakashima fan. I also listen to a lot of Do As Infinity, Yui, m-flo, L'Arc~en~ciel, move and Tsukiko Amano.
