I mean compared to like a Tacoma?
I'd rather have a Tacoma for several reasons.
    It's a Toyota
Resale value higher (cost more of course too)
More power (the SC model makes ~30 more HP than a Tacoma)

But besides that I think they are pretty much comparable.

    01 Frontier XE ~100k

    Buy it now at $10K

If you were to look for a 01 Tacoma Crew(double) Cabwith ~100k miles V6 it would be $15k+

So what seems to be the major malfunction of the Frontier?

Nissans are cheaper because they are older and less luxury oriented than the Tacoma.

Also, the actual observed mileage on the Frontier is ROTTEN.

15-16MPG from a V6 is not acceptable to most people.

Yea. I don't think the Frontiers will beat out the Tacoma. I just need to find a cheap one.

Frontiers are built on a newer platform than the Tacoma. They just don't sell very well for whatever reason. It was probably the Nissan model least advertised. A new Tundra costs a lot more than a Frontier, so used they would as well. Toyotas always have absurdly high resale values anyway.

I put all 51,000 miles on my 2000 Frontier, and haven't spent a penny on repairs (other than the obvious - oil changes, tune ups, etc.).
Even tho the interior is fairly plain, I still don't have any rattles. Granted, I don't haul around piles of bricks, but I use it for home projects, camping in the summer, and moving around my family in comfort.
I've never owned a Toyota, so I can't comment on those. What I do know is that when I'm ready to buy another truck, it will most certainly be another Nissan.
