I just picked up a NIB Ultratech SE. My buddy bought an Ultratech Tanto Tactical.

What a badass knife. This is my first OTF Microtech. Looking for a LUDT or UMS for every day carry now. Trashed my CRKT, Benchmade auto is too big for my taste and my Emerson CQC7 isn't much fun.

Anybody else a Microtech fan? :dunno:

I can't comment on reliability. I've only had mine for 3 days. A friend of mine has a couple and he seems to think they are wonderful. He carried a UMS and a mini-Socom for a while, but went back to his Sebenza.

I don't know if I would actually carry a knife like this, but it's pretty pimp.

    very fucking nice. :bigthumb:

If I get another OTF, it will be a Halo III.

How long have you had it? Do you carry it, or is it a safe queen? I haven't made up my mind as to the future of mine, but its looking like it will probably stay in the safe. :noes:

Single action OTF auto's, especially MT's are extremely reliable... kind of like a revolver. They're basically a spring, a retracting slide, and the blade, that's pretty much it, very simple with nothing to go wrong.

Double action OTF auto's like the MT Makora are definitely cool, fun to play around with and great knives, but they're very complicated internally and even though it's a Microtech, a lot can go wrong with a double action OTF knife, so i'd never carry one for self defense because while they are reliable, they're not 100% reliable 100% of the time like Microtech single action knives are. The last thing you want is to be in a situation where you NEED it and it won't fire for whatever reason and this is a very real possibility with DA OTF's, so i'd personally never carry them but a lot of people do.

I'm not sure if you've ever fired an OTF knife before, but most Microtech's kick harder than a .22 rifle, you can really feel the power when you fire them, and if you're like me who likes to fire your knife 50 times a day, your hand will get sore after a while from all the "recoil"... it's GREAT :bigthumb:

It's definitely not a safe queen, i'll probably buy a Troodon or an Ultratech or some other fun double action OTF as a safe queen eventually :bigthumb:.

I've had it for roughly about a month and a half or so, I love it and I carry it. It doesn't have a pocket clip, but even if it did I wouldn't trust a pocket clip on my $340 dollar knife. I carry it in a TAD Gear sheath, it's similar to the sheath that comes with it from Mictrotech but can be carried horizontally on your belt and it also doesn't say "MICROTECH" on it advertising to the world what you've got on your belt.

Kiefer Sutherland collects MT's in real life, he has something like 75+ Microtech's and anytime MT comes out with a new knife or a new edition or something, they always give Jack Bau... errr Kiefer one with serial #24.

oh yeah, and no Microtech thread would be complete without this:

    after reading this thread:
    http://www.microholics.org/cgi-microholics/ib312/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=8;t=11168
I doubt i'll ever buy one

the main point that turned me away:
Fuck those people. They refuse to even acknowledge one of their biggest retailers who recently passed away, and they basically tell their biggest fanbase to fuck off. Not a great way to do business, not to mention all the other shadyness mentioned in the thread regarding logo's and such.

That's the thing... Microtech doesn't care about doing business with civilians. Microtech is basically the cutlery version of how Colt and HK are to the firearms market. They hate the civilian market and would prefer to never sell to civilians, and just sell strictly to LE and military. If you have a problem with your Microtech knife and it needs warranty work, you CANNOT send it in to Microtech for warranty repair or replacement unless you're a LEO or military.

They still make the best OTF knives on the market though, and i'll continue to buy them.

Do LEOs and soldiers really buy their knives that often? Seems like they wouldn't really exists without selling to the public.

They're illegal in most states and it's a felony to ship them across state lines, so it's difficult to develop a huge civilian following when most people can't own or buy one even when they want to.

Cooooool. I almost bought a friends mini-Socom. I liked it a lot. Their side-opening autos are very nice also. You can tell they are very well made. I'd like to find a decent UMS that I can carry every day
