In my head it's same because of body position. Aside from the bent over row uses free wieghts.

    Comments?

freeweight requires a strong lower back and hip structure to maintain your posture

if my rows are at the start of my workout, I go freeweight...if I am already trashed but still need to row, I will do cable rows to spare my lower back.

main difference is that everyone cheats like a motherfucker on bent over rows and they become not-so-bent-over

i'm always confused as to how low i should be bent over since everyone at the gym is all over the place. i try to keep my back flat at 180 degrees, don't even know if thats proper.

I like the semi-supinated grip for rowing so cable rows are my favorite. Plus like other people said, BB rows are almost never done on the proper plane of motion, but with cable rows I can pull perfectly horizontal. Yeah they work your lower back and what not more but if you deadlift and squat often I don't see why you need your lat work to be hitting those muscles, they should be strong/growing anyway.
