I'm going to be backpacking Oz for a year in december, I want to get an iPod to keep me company during the flight/bus trips etc, but it must be able to do the following:
-have the ability to upload pics from my digi cam (with adaptor)
    -play movies
-be recharged without a computer ( i'm leaving my macbook at home)

will the new classic be able to do these things? sorry i have a macbook but i've never owned an iPod before

    thanks

i don't think it can do that... u'd need ur laptop for that

if u want to watch videos, id recommend the touch because u get a bigger screen

but from the comments, it looks like it doesn't work for the new classic and I doubt it would work for the touch.

You can get 160gb of space with the classic, 16 gb with the touch. You get a bigger screen, but you lose 10 times the storage to store those movies, songs. If you aren't going to be with a computer for a while, i'd get the classic... unless you want to watch movies over and over...

just looked at those, they are too expensive and only have 30 gigs, i'm plus the video playback is the least important feature for me, music and the photo uploading are more important, also what does a 80 gig classic sell for in the US? this may be worth the 40 minute drive to buffalo if i can save some $

that camera connector looks pretty sweet... wonder why it isn't compatible with the classic?? maybe a new connector is in the works... who knows..?

the older ipod video model is available through the refurbs sold by apple.com if you think 30gb works, they are $199.99 here ... however you can prolly find better deals on ebay or craigslist

    just a note...

you may want to check out the reviews of this camera connector... from what i hear it has pretty low transfer speeds.. so if you have a bunch of hi-res images it could take quite a few minutes..

that site with the connector says it does not work with ipod classic. maybe try to get your hands on the last gen that doesent have the brushed metal. i mean its pretty much the exact same thing just not metal front and a different interface that doesent seem that important for what u want to do

Get a 60 gig photo or a 80 gig video.

60 gig photo if you really wanna get cranking, since it has firewire support, but smaller screen is the tradeoff.
