1993 and somewhat beyond was the heyday for Japanese sports cars in North America. Nissan 300zx and 240, Mazda rx-7, toyota supra and mr-2, Honda nsx, and others. Eventually that time ended and things got pretty boring.
But is it just me or is it possible that the japanese car war may be starting again? Mitsu evo x and the subaru sti, which have always been around, but Nissan bringing out the gt-r at a relatively affordable price and already having a long waiting list may inspire other manufacturers to do the same.

    Thoughts?

    Think about it

    Nissan 300zx TT
    Rx-7 TT
    Toyota Supra TT
    Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 (TT AWD)
    Acura (Honda) NSX
    Mitsubishi Eclipse GST / GSX

There were definitely a lot of performance vehicles from Japan in the mid 90's. I don't see a "war" starting but it is nice to have a few powerhouse cars on the road again. 2000-2004 semed pretty boring.

If a Japanese sports car war is coming, it couldn't have been at a worse time. Don't forget, last time around, it was because of recession that they stopped making these cars. Me personally, I'm waiting for a real successor to the NSX before I commit to a new car. None of this silly FR, and trying to call it NSX. Although this new prototype that has been seen around Nurburgring looks decent, much better than ASCC, and it's got some impressive numbers. Don't know if its a V8 or V10 either.
Also, the Sti and Evo have not always been around.

People have said it, I think it's true; the Genesis Coupe may be teh closest thing to a new 240

To bad it's an overweight POS that every girl is going to be given from there dads, and will be covered in ricer body kits and have fart cans installed :hsd:

Fuck, look at the original S30s. The furthest most people take bodies on that is a spoiler (that actually works), a front air dam (that actually works), and fender flairs (for bigger tires). None of this bullshit ZOMG GROUND EFFECTS EVEN THOUGH I DON'T HAVE A TRAY UNDERNEATH THE CAR.

See that other thread I made about a 3rd party 240Z concept for what nissan really needs to do (I'll find it and bump it...)

Well people will do what they want to a car...sad to say but true. The 370Z is supposed to be 200lbs lighter and make 30+HP more then the 350Z....so I wouldnt call it over weight at all...should be a pretty fast car.

Its a rendering of what it will likely look like. I'd say it will be VERY similar to that.

LoL yeah. I give Hyundai credit for building an affordable sports car, but it is no reincarnated 240SX or a Z fighter.

The early 90's was the Japanese muscle car era. I don't see it coming back. Their sports cars are too sophisticated now.

Wasnt so much the tech that killed the cars, if you actually had done research you would know that the 3000GT actually out sold the 300ZX/Supra/RX-7 by a lot. The biggest fail was the Supra and RX-7 with very few units sold each year...the 300ZX did almost as well as the 3000GT.

Dare I say you are retarted? Not only is the 350Z 6 years old and set to be replaced by the much improved 370Z the same time that the Genesis Coupe goes on sale but it STILL is a better performance car. More power, bigger brakes, less weight. And when the 370Z is released it will obliterate any thing Hyundai has to offer
