People says that the have nmany ways of making someone stop smking is it true about that. because i think that smoking will take a good prayer intervention or personal determination before someone can stop smoking.

well it does take determination but there are many help available nowadays. It's a matter of choice in the end.

I bought one of those e-cigs so I could "smoke" in places where it wasn't allowed and ended up accidentally quitting by the 3rd day. I just didn't want a regular cigarette anymore. That was about a month ago. I took a drag from a friend's cigarette the other day and it tasted like I licked the inside of an ashtray. I can't see going back to that.

Smoked 16 years and quit cold turkey. Been smoke free 1 year last April. I started @ 16 and @ 32, I had smoked half my life. I have 2 kids and neither ever saw me smoke and I wanted to make sure that they did not.

edit, yeah it sucked for about the first week, then literally every day got easier. A craving lasts for about 2 minutes. Fight it and it goes away.

The only methods I've seen work are pure will power, channeling the addiction into something else such as suckers, and hypnosis. I'm slightly skeptical about the hypnosis thing.

I've heard about research being done on a nicotine antibody that can be injected, and your body will start copying it and using it to attack and destroy any nicotine in your bloodstream from there on out. That would at least get rid of the physiological addiction, if not the oral fixation.

I'm worried about that, though, because nicotine (like all other drugs) work by being very similar to chemicals your brain DOES need, and having antibodies roaming through your brain destroying anything that looks like Niacin (i.e. nicotinic acid, required for proper brain function) could lead to irreversible depression and insanity. I won't be signing up for the clinical trial.

Yours only lasted for a couple of minutes? Shit, mine could go on for a half hour at a time, with me staring at the second-hand on the clock the whole time. Then again, my mother smoked inside my entire childhood and while I was in-utero (I still bust her ass about that sometimes), so for all I know I need nicotine just to function normally.

I did find that it helped to buy a pack of premium cigarettes and sniff the unburned tobacco whenever I had a craving, though. I've always liked the way tobacco smells, it's like an air freshener to me.

David Bowie smoked up to three packs a day at one point. He quit when his daughter was born. The point being he had a reason, a motivation. Give yourself one.

    I tried the following:

    Patch: made me manic
    Chantix: made me very manic
    gum: made me manic
cold turkey: Was going batshit insane.

I'm going to try this laser procedure where they laser your ear this fall. If I don't have cigs I will go nuts. It's the only thing holding me together right now besides HP of course.
