I bought this usb 2.0 pci card so that I can have use usb 2.0 for my external HD. Well is there anyway to tell if it's actually using 2.0 or 1.1 (or 1.0 w/e it is)?

Doesn't seem any faster so I'm wondering if it's even working at 2.0 speeds. How can I test or check if it's using 2.0?

Within XP, if you plug in a 2.0 device into a 1.1 plug it bitches about how wonderful your life would be if you plugged it into a 2.0 slot.

Well you could try timing a big file transfer and do the math.

You should be able to move a gb of data in well under a minute if it's usb 2.0.

yes and no... If the machine is bottle necked elsewhere, he can't move data that fast, anyway.

5Gen_Prelude's solution works... Or you can check the device manager. A USB 2.0 port with the correct driver will say "Enhanced". If it doesn't, then you may not be using the proper drivers.

I'll have to look more at a lot of these when I get home.
So when I plug a 2.0 device into a 2.0 port, i'll get nothing about how great 2.0 is? I also don't recall ever seeing that w/ 1.1 even, maybe I just skipped right by it.

Well, as a general rule, if you try to transfer anything bigger than a Notepad file over USB 1.1, you'll develop a strong urge to hang yourself.
