So I just put my MIAD on my AR and love the way it feels, but I'm unsure what to do with the 3-round core. Is it legal to carry 3 rounds in the grip? It's technically a separate compartment from the magazine well, correct? Since I live in the Nazi state of IL I have a feeling they'd look down upon that being loaded (if they could find it :mamoru:)

    Whats your take?

It would be illegal here, ammo and gun must be stored separately. Even rifle zipped up in the assualt case with loaded mags or boxes of ammo in the exterior pockets would be illegal.

In IL the law states that the gun must be unloaded and carried in a lockable case. It specifically says that the ammo can be carried in the same case as the gun, only that it is not readily accessible.

Now I'd say the MIAD core is LESS accessible than a loaded magazine, seeing as you have to remove the core and hand chamber a round. So if its legal to carry a loaded magazine, it should be legal to have the MIAD core full with bullets.

99.9% of cops would never find it. Watching COPS it's amazing how many LEOs have problems just taking the magazine out of perp's weapons.

doubtful. I mean if your state has a law saying you can't store ammo with a firearm, then sure... But, for example, there is no such law in Oregon.

And you would be "just as fucked" by having a retail box sitting next to the rifle.

Rather than removing the ammo I'd just remove myself from shithole IL.

Already in progress. I've been a resident of MO for a year now, probably going to apply for residency soon.

    Seriously? I love NY. :hsugh:

Can you link me to our firearm transportation laws. I might be picking up a HD shotgun in the next few days.

I'll see if I can dig something up, hard to find shit since packing went down. But yeah ammo and firearm have to be transported in seperate containers. I usually just leave the guns back in the cargo area and ammo on the floor in passenger comparment.
