    Seriously no flame......

What do you think will happen resurgence wise for Karate now that GSP and Machida are both champs and are Karate based/background......

No one would have ever guessed before Machida that someone could come in with a semi traditional Karate stance and whop ass......

I think there are kids everywhere looking to sign up soon.....

No. I took wado ryu karate from age 5 till about 12. It is wild to watch Machida fight since i can recognize alot of techniques in his striking however maybe 2% of karate dojos in the world teach karate on an applicable level such as his.

Most people realize he has also had to train Muay Thai, Boxing, Sumo, BJJ, and Wrestling in order to be able to use Karate effectively.

I can see already well rounded MMA fighters cross training a little bit to learn some of the striking but i doubt schools across world are going to see a bunch of Machida fans coming through the door.

I did Karate for 3 years and no it's not. The thing with GSP and Machida is they mix a lot of other things into their style and use a variety of different strikes. Now if they remake Karate Kid, well that's a different story.

    Silly thread.

But GSP is a bad example to use for the effectiveness of karate anyway since what you see in the cage from him is not a high level karate practitioner, but a guy with a great ground game and solid stand up.

And the Mcdojo's in the US don't teach karate at nearly a high enough level for it to ever be practical.

    yep.

Also Rogan continually stressed during the fight that Machida is really effective because he has trained in a number of other disciples in addition to karate.

I gave up sex in favour of karate. My wife prefers a good kick in the box instead of a dick in the box.

Ironically, I was looking to see if there were any Shotokan schools around here last night.

But thats more of a concession of age than anything.

I guess I should have stated it in a different way.....I think there will be a resurgence in Karate Dojo's based on Machida promoting it and GSP openly saying Karate is where he got his start....

I mean this for the enthusiast not someone that really is into MMA......

you can tell the influence in GSP's stand up because his striking looks right out of kyokoshin. The thing is kyokoshin is really similar to european style kick boxing so you cant really tell.

Your absolutely right though there arent that many good schools in the U.S. the majority of the karate schools in the U.S. are McDojos. Its really tough to find a good school here. In europe and south america they have alot of good schools. Over here we bastardized it so they get a bad rap.
