Is it wrong to get an adrenalin rush upon finding the fix to some issue that's been bugging you? Is it wrong to get that rush when you learn something new that you can implement over and over again?

    I think I'm a sick person :hs:

I'd program for $30,000 a year if need be. Shit, I'd do it for free. All I need is food and a place to live. :o

I taught myself some stuff tonight regarding SQL queries and constructing efficient queries, and I was way too happy afterward.

On the way home from work, I started writing a program to put together a report for any client using the queries, and then I started to normalize the database that I was working on since the person who created it was a retard. And mind you, this was while I was driving.

I'm addicted to logic, and that doesn't help while trying to date :o

    Lehp :(

either i'm excited or extremely depressed over stuff. I LOVE figuring things out for the better, etc. But when i spend all day on 1 bug, it can really get to me. I usually have to figure everything out before i leave the office. Some days i leave early, and others i'll work 12 hours because i'm on a roll, etc.

  6. so much so.

also, I used to get more psyched over writing code back in the day, when it was all new to me, and I was some sort of superstar at every company I contracted for ... since the bubble burst and most of the work I do has become routine, the buzz is killed :(

Not programming but I'm pretty excited about my field which is even more difficult to explain to the layperson than programming. :big grin:

:werd: I've never really been able to get into programming.. I did BASIC years ago, which was exciting ( ).. but that's it.

I DO, however, get very excited about my career everyday when I get up in the morning. I love my job, my field, and everything I do.

There is nothing wrong with being passionate with your career. Means you are willing to go the extra mile, means you are possibly more ambitious then your co-worker, and makes your value to your employer higher then the average Joe.

    Enjoy what you do.

I will agree with Mikallz and DatacomGuy. I don't like or do much programing but I do love what I am doing for work. And this is just a summer internship, I can't wait until I get into the really cool stuff. :big grin: :big grin: :big grin:

I am sort of an assistant to the IT department of a manufacturing company. We have about 100 machines that we admin. I have been doing all sorts of stuff. Preping new machines before they go out. (Fresh install of 2K, office, groupwise, Novell client, etc). Have helped with some network administration. Helped implement and VPN solution. And right now I am in the process of creating a Linux based SMTP relay that will help fight our growing spam problem.

I get even more excited when I help Systems build and install new servers, refurb old ones, clean up the switch room.

One of the most fun days was putting together 12 2u's of P4 3.0's for a testing environment for a client. Sucked since someone snagged our cordless drill so we had to hand-turn all 48 bolts + the ones for the power strips, hub, and UPS's into a frame that really wasn't all that great (each screw had to thread it's own way...).

The good part about that day was finishing up by mounting 2 new Dell 2u's that are our new SQL & Production/Dev servers :naughty: We're moving up from dual P3 550's :ugh:

I get the same way. :o

I just love what I do. I find tracking down bugs is fun too. Esp when you haven't been through that part of the code in awhile. It's interesting to see what you were thinking at that moment, then try to make it even better.
