wouldn't that potentially drive away customers (who click on your ads never to return) that you want to click on your AM links?

Yes it could drive customers away.

Test it. Run full bore for a week with no adsense, run next week with adsense.

Did you make more? Make less? Conversions the same....

There are no answers, test and figure out what works for your site the best.

Basics of AM. test test test test test test test test

Dot. Test and analyze. Really important with AM.

As a rule of thumb though, it's stupid to put adsense on any site you could make more without it. Adsense is good for random sites without very targeted traffic or that you can't figure out how to monitize but the very nature of adsense drives your traffic away from your site. If you have a product to sell/promote or can find better targeted affiliate products that will make you more and possible even keep them on your site then that is the way to go. If it's just a "landing page" then you should only have "profitable outs" so any link they click will make you money somehow (besides your "privacy policy", contact and such).

But you could test putting adsense at the very bottom of your landing page as a last chance to make some money off their visit. But you have to test to see if it lowers your CTR/conversions or not as those few cent clicks could cost you a lot more in lost leads.

well if you'd rather get $0.05 for a click than $30 for a conversion...

    Hey hey hey.

I get some $1.50 clicks... 20 of those and I am converting better than you are and making more money.

Anyways, it can make him more. He just needs to test.
