Is it stupid to polish 3-year-old paint?

My dad's 2007 Miata has metallic silver paint that's still nice and glossy, but I was thinking of giving it a quick pass with polish before waxing it this coming spring, just to smooth out any as-yet invisible irregularities in the clearcoat. Does that make sense or am I nuts?

BTW...my old VW is still beading up in the rain, and it's been months since I clayed/polished/waxed it. Nothing like a job well done. :)

You'd be amazed what proper polishing can do to paint that already looks good.

What would be stupid is NOT polishing it, IMHO.
