What if it gets hot as fuck in the car, any chance of that somehow causing a round to fire? How about damage to the gun itself? (I'm a gun newb)

How about if you are in a major traffic accident and the gun gets completely crushed, any chance of the ammo firing?

    Thanks :)

It will not get hot enough to harm the gun or for ammo to go off. It might get stolen though.

I think if you get in a car crash where the gun gets completely crushed, it's going to be the last of your worries

Why? Say the gun is in the glove box and you are hit from the passenger side. The glove box area would be crushed to shit but otherwise the driver would probably be fine :dunno:

Also, what temp can ammo withstand? I live in the South and inside the car it gets hot as fuck...

I guess I was just picturing a gun in the center console and a semi completely crushing the car. :o

this sounds 'gun store mythy'. I'd like to know more, but i have a feeling that it's not true. Think of the ammo cans sitting in tanks and in the middle of the desert in Iraq. Southern heat can hardly touch that kind of heat.

I left a cz-52 in my jeep for a long time before I turned old enough to CCW(23 here in missouri), and it was just fine. Never kept one in the chamber though, as it was too old of a gun to trust. if you're worried about it going off, just keep it condition 3.

No physical reason you can't do it. But from a safety standpoint, unless it's in a pistol safe it's not the best idea.

Close, hot ammo will fire at higher pressures and heat will cause it to break down faster. Once its back to normal temperature though it will fire just like normal. Even at that consider the hot ammo fired every day in the sandbox :big grin:

... unlikely this is going to damage the gun very much.

Out of my mind, brb never.
I would never do it. I just recently had my car broken into and a bunch of shit stolen. I had just been out shooting the day before and had previously left the guns in the car. For whatever reason I decided to bring them inside and leave them there after cleaning them. Best decision I ever made. Turns out that a couple of tweaks had broken into 5 other cars that night and were caught a few days later. Could have killed someone with my gun.

SOrry about the breakin. I never leave mine in the car overnight. Generally, I'm carrying on my hip, if not, I bring it in. This is just proof that God wants the good guys to have firearms.:)

I never ever leave a gun in my car. car theft is very likely and I'd hate to have someone get my gun and use it.

As mentioned above just check it every so often. I would not do it, but the only things to watch would be the ammo (cycle it every now and then) and make sure it is well-oiled, especially if it is in the car as a defense weapon. The heat could thin out the oil over extended periods of time.

I can lock my glove compartment.
I can also lock my car.
    The car has an alarm.

They'd run the risk of me stepping out of my Guard Shack and throwing my M&P at them.
They could end up getting hurt.

I wouldn't. If only for the fact your car could get stolen. One of the deputies I work with (who's kind of a lop) got his car stolen with his backup in his glove box.
