The Apple is picking up the computers on my Windows wi-network, but not the printer. Is there a way to connect to it without using the USB? Be easy, I'm still new to teh Mac :o.

Assuming your windows computer has file printer sharing available, and your computer has the appropriate drivers, then yes you can connect to the printer via the network. Some of the newer printers support Bonjour, and, you should be able to connect thru that as well. (I think)

I've found it to be a bit of a mixed bag myself.

In general, OS X's support for Windows networking is buggy, inconsistent and generally poor :( Can you see that share from other windows machines?

That sums it up nicely

I can see shared folders and files on other PCs with my mac (just like my other PCs can) but it refuses to play nicely with my shared printer (but every PC in the house can connect and print to it). Oh well.

My powerbook needed drivers and from the cd that came with our HP wireless printer. That said, it now recognizes and prints wirelessly to the printer on our WIndows network.

Yea, both windows machines on the network recognize it.. I'm going to give Tvan's suggestion a try and install the driver cd.
