Opinions on this squating technique?
To the first comment on that page: It's not A2G.
that was ugly as fuck
Looks like a tall dude. Basically we have no choice but to bring more back into it...
terrible form. he is kicking his hips out before he initiates the movement.
and that is how u get hurt
I used to squat like that myself, now my hips don't like anything above 315
stop squatting with shoe laces bro
Wouldn't a "lead with the head" fix it?
I'm 6'4" and I used to squat like that... until I started doing overhead squats and got my lower back & hamstring flexibility up to par. Now I can drop straight down till my hams touch my calves.
that hurts my back just watching it
thats exactly what it is.... height isnt the reason why he is squatting like that, its all flexibility. most people have terrible flexibility in the posterior chain region
What is the best way to improve the flexibility there? I've gotten pretty far with my hamstrings now, but my lower back still constantly feels tight no matter what I'm doing/where I am. Just standing toe touches or what?
Overhead squats ftw. Toe touches didn't do much for me, but learning an ATG OH squat did it in a few weeks.
those are squat mornings.
mobility work in general. it is probably not limited to just your lower back. All kinds of shit is involved with the squatting motion - hip flexors, glutes, back, hammys, etc. I'd start doing some glute activation work, work your hip flexors more - dynamic mobility work will help you out a ton.
look in the OT fileshare, I wrote up a breakdown of some mobility shit. the Magnificent Mobility DVD is a good choice, too
6'5", I think I'm going to start OH squats too because I tend to bend forward too
I'm 6'3 and i think i fold up like that when I squat. Seems like the only way i can do it without my heels comming off the ground. If i elevate my heels alittle by a mat or something its not as bad, i cant really tell how my form is but at the top i think I good morning the weight up. Overhead squats you say?
Downloaded that about a week ago, saw you post that you uploaded it. Just wanted to see if that was your opinion of the best option or if there were other stretches or something that would do the trick. Thanks though.
If you go A2G on overhead squats you won't be able to fold over like that and it should definitely help.
overhead squats look pretty hard. what kinda weight can you use, like 135
word, shit looks impossible...but i guess its more for practicing the form of keep your heals down, not leaning forward and not goodmorning'ing the weight up.. so enough weight to make it a rep is probably all you need to use to practice
at least the animator made the little dude go atg
OH squats are fun. Balance is critical when the weight gets heavy
ill prob just use the bar
