I'm in love with my marlin 336 (lever action 30-30). I call her Clementine. I kinda get wood when I polish her. She's my baby and will put two bullets through the same hole with iron sights.

I kinda like the idea of a 44 magnum revolver and lever gun if I ever had to really bug out and live like a cowboy. Yeah that's just a dumb fantasy and will never happen, but doesn't it sound cool?

You're in Texas, it's probably some pollen in the air.

I have a Marlin 30-30 also. Solid gun.

I would love to get a Ruger Vaquero or Uberti SA cowboy revolver. IMo it's one of those guns you get when you pretty much have what you want for solid "go to" stuff.

357 (shooting 38 specials) is infinitely more fun than shooting turdy-turdy rounds. Find some cowboy action guys to go shoot with; I've done it, it's pretty fun actually.

I've got a .45 Colt Uberti Single Action Army, 5 1/2" barrel, case hardened finish. I <3 that gun.

I will probably pick up a Ruger in .45LC someday. I say Ruger because their actions are strong enough to handle .454 pressure levels if you want to load .45LC cartridges a tad bit hot.

Be nice to fine a .45LC levergun that can handle those loads too...

I shoot all my in-law's single actions and lever .38's when we go visit.
It's pretty fun to shoot the rifle rounds in the double derringer:naughty:

I hope to pick up a 44 mag and 45lc (or can you shoot .45 out of a .454) lever guns when i get out of college. My .35 and .22 levers are some of the best guns i have shot.

Going back to the five cartridges mentioned at the beginning the results were most interesting. Randy Garrett's .45-70 Hammerhead 530 gr. hardcast at 1,550 fps went 55" into wet newspaper. A 495 gr. hardcast .500 Linebaugh fired from a 5.5" sixgun with a muzzle velocity of 1,270 fps was right behind it at 52".

The .500 Nitro Express with a solid weighing 570 grs. came in third at 48", followed by the .458 Win. Mag. with a 500 gr. solid traveling at a muzzle velocity of 2,260 fps and 47" of penetration. Finally, the .45 Colt with a 350 gr. hardcast bullet at 1,400 fps gave 43" of penetration, or only 5" less than the .500 Nitro and 4" less than the .458.
