Is it normal to meet a private seller at a random public place?

Going to check out a car at 6pm in a grocery store parking lot. Last car I bought we met at a gas station. Are people afraid you are going to hunt them down at their house if you have a problem? The title is most likely registered to their home address anyway. Explain the logic behind this please, if you know. Seems like in a world with mapquest why can't you just give street address? Thanks for enlightening me.

I wonder if the team at Mythbusters could handle this case. Though I do believe it could happen.

Other people around = false sense of security. If you're going to kill someone while looking at their car for no good reason you're probably fucked up enough to do it no matter where you are. $.02

Yes, very normal. I don't want to give my home address out to 50 strangers.
If you buy the car I know you, you know me, doesn't matter if you have the address.

also makes it a lot easier to tell tire-kickers and joy-riders "fuck you, I'm out".

I always did it just to be nice, I'd meet them somewhere convenient for both of us, no other reason.
