is it normal for a laptop to get so hot it burns skin?

    my laptop has been getting so hot (15"MBP btw) lately its been burning skin! Ill accidentally place it on my leg or something with shorts on and it will BURN! :wtc:


    not like the normal hot burn but it will sting

    mine gets pretty hot too, thats why they are called notebooks now, not laptops. :rofl:

    Yes, sadly that's "normal" for MBPs.

    my white macbook gets really hot when i encode video, i usually try to have the bottom lifted up off of a table to help dissipate heat

    it the penryn really that much cooler? mine i cold during normal use and I can have it on my legs doing vhub and its warm but no probs.

    Is that bad/hard on the macbook when it gets that warm?

    I always feel like i am hurting my baby ;)

    High temps can shorten the life of hard drives. Just keep the vents open and the fans should be able to keep things under control. There are safeguards in place should things get too hot.
