to split each major muscle group into its own day? Instead of doing two muscle groups in one day, ie chest/back, shoulders/arm etc.

For instance would this split do any good?

    Sun - Chest
    Mon - Back
    Tue - Shoulders
    Wed - Off
    Thur - Legs
    Fri - Biceps
    Sat - Triceps

I was thinking this would cut down time in the gym considerably, however, is only one day of rest per week enough? Especially since I plan on intensifying the workout even more.

    Where's the Ceaze on this.

it is best to work each muscle group with in a week. so something like this

    Sun - off
    mon- Chest/back (do pullups)
    Tue -Shoulders/legs
    Wed - Chest/back(do pullups)
    thur- shoulders/ legs
    Fri - cardio
Sat - use this day to rest or see your max.

    WTF Biceps and Triceps individually

an arm day would be :greddy: enough

    any reasons why?

    right now my split is:

    Sun - Chest
    Mon - Back/Shoulders
    Tue - Legs/Biceps
    Wed - Off
    Thur - Triceps/Abs
    Fri - Off
    Sat - Off

I do like it, but when the gym is pretty busy I can find myself being in the gym for an hour and a half or more. Especially with a workout partner. Plus I'm thinking that I could probably hit my target muscle harder for that day without wasting energy on another muscle.

I saw my biggest gains when I was doing it.

Had my days split up as Chest (on Mondays, of course), Back, Shoulders/traps, Legs, and arms/grip.

mainly b/c it doesnt carry over to any usefullness in any area of life, except having a pumped look.
if youre an athlete, you need to recruit certain groups of muscles at the same time, if youre a furniture mover, you arent going to use only your arms, or only your legs. if you need to hang some sheetrock on your ceiling, you arent going to lay down and bench press it up.

if youre just looking for a change, try something like working antagonist groups in the same day (chest and back together, instead of how it is now, your back is tired to efficiently lift after a chest day), or a bill starr/5x5, etc. i think youll appreciate more what i mean by lifting this way, and seeing how your body, overall responds to having to work 'together'

so maybe combine biceps/triceps then and add another day of rest?

The day I have the biggest problem is with Back/Shoulders. I seem to spend alot of time in there on that day so I really wanted to find a way to split that up, and I just figured, why not split everything up? :dunno: I'd really like to hear what Ceaze or Pur thinks of this, they usually have the endall sayall in these matters.

I definately would like to gain size/bulk, but you're right in the aspect that I wouldn't want to have it if it weren't functional. I am a very active guy already and would hate to lose any stamina or agility I have already.

edit - however, moving heavy weight is starting to turn me on more and more.

I'm thinking of changing up my routine as well. Currently its...
    sun- lower/ heavy
    mon- upper/ volume
    thur- lower/ volume
    fri- upper/ heavy

    Thinking of changing it to:
sun- bench/ rows (horizontal push/pull, chest & back accessories and triceps)
mon- lower/ heavy (same as current)
tues- pullups/ presses (vertical push/pull, delts & back accessories and biceps)
thur- lower/ volume (same as current)
fri- heavy/ upper (same as current)

    Opinions?

For the past 6 months I worked 1 body part a day. This week I just switched it up to:

    Monday - Chest/tris
    Tuesday - Back/bi's
    Wednesday - Shoulders/legs
    Thurs - Rest or abs
    Friday - Start over

Anyone else do it this way? I'm going to give it a month and see what results I get. If they're not that good then I'm gonna go back to workin 1 body part a day, as I've seen some decent results with that routine.

I saw good results with a split I did like this:

    Mon - Chest
    Tue - Back
    Wed - Shoulders
    Thu - Legs
    Fri - Arms

1 day per week of direct work but everything is getting hit indirectly multiple times.

interesting, that's pretty much what i would like to do. I guess I should just combine all the arm workouts on one day and go from there.

    Sun - Chest
    Mon - Back
    Tue - Shoulders
    Wed - Off
    Thur - Legs
    Fri - Arms
    Sat - Off

sounds good to me, I think I will try this for about a month and see how I feel.

Thanks for all the info. :)

try reversing sunday and monday, but back may be tender for tuesdays workout.
im assuming youre focusing on certain areas, yes? seems like a lot of back work for me at least, esp if you do compound lifts on leg days...
