Is it bad to store my VCR on its side, rather than "flat"

Apologies if this isnt the right forum....

I want to place an old VCR of mine on its side, as it will fit better on my computer desk (I use it for running tapes into my PC via my tv tuner card).

Is this a bad idea? I dont want to wreck it even though its old, and more importantly I dont want to damage the tapes when I play them by doing this.

Has anyone got any experience with this?

    Thanks.

It really shouldnt matter. To be sure you could get a tape you dont care about and see if it works right on its side.

Yep - once I get the table up, I'll give it a test run.

    Thanks.
