A lock would be idiotic. You need to... you know, contribute. Until then... zip it! :) I'm intersted in first-hand opinions on things as they stand now, not a history of the invasion of Iraq pointing out all the blunders.

the military's job is to act not debate and think about what will happen if......

From my buddies in teh box right now, they say things are good but not getting shown. Every person has a viewpoint and there are more than a few soldiers there that only wanted free school. the real question is, if things are so bad over there why are troops re-enlisting way above the average?

I asked a few people here at work that reenlisted in Iraq this question after I read your post.

in short: huge tax free bonuses

as for the rest of your post, its not the militarys job to debate the issue, we are supposed to follow orders. However, we are free to discuss and debate and form our own opinions on subjects.

If the military has a set mission then we will do the job. We do not need to worry about the political ramifications of that action. That is for the politicians to do.

I think i strayed on a tangent from the main topic. Honestly I reread the entire thread and I'm unable to find my train of thought when i made my first post. Guess I am just old or was drunk.

(Quietly removing myself from thread :squint: )

obviously if we are given a mission, we are to complete that mission, regardless of our personal feelings on the subject. That doesn't mean we aren't allowed or expected not to have personal feelings or opinions on the political, social, global or economic ramifications of the situation as a whole.

I understand your perspective from a mission-based point of view, being that we should not allow our personal opinions or beliefs to get in the way of performing and accomplishing our lawful orders. Thats a given.

No offense to anyone in this thread, but really to fully appreciate the Geo-Political consequences of different actions really is up to the Field Grade Officers or above. Even the SGM's are immune to the decisions made by the Senior Officers appointed over them. The SGM's are responsible for their men...the actions of their officers...make sense?

Makes perfect sense, however, not everyone is priveledged enough to recieve daily briefings of the situation over there as a whole.

Right now the whole topic is in extreme speculation mode, which to my understanding is why the threadstarter asked the question.

I am not banned in OnT. I post there every day.

I'm not trolling, and I'm not trying to debate. And I'm not looking for politics. I'm asking about the state of the mission. Have things degraded into a low level civil war or not? Some of you have been there, and lots of you know people that have been, right? So what are you/they thinking?

Media always has an agenda to push. Articles are published to send a specific message and its always a biased one.

From what I saw ... its not so much a civil war yet ... just "hired" help from outside the country terrorizing the people and the military. So technically its not a civil war.

I think if we pull out now, the Iraqui military will be overwhelmed. I saw and did plenty of good while I was over there and will try to get another tour out there once I rotate out of Japan to California.

Plus I heard the hazard pay went WAY up.
