No manually managing music and movies on the iPhone. This is really dumb, they should expect all libraries to be in excess of the 8 gB that the iPhone has.

Anyone know of a solution to this?

what kind of management are you trying to do?

the whole premise is that you manage everything on itunes and it works seamlessly on the phone/ipod whatever.

correct. however, on an ipod you can manually move and remove files as you feel. you can't on the iPhone...it is sync only

I think you're confused. You can't manage anything directly from the ipod.

exactly, this is manually managing your music. i have not found a way to do this with the iPhone.

and for the reference, I don't put anything else besides videos and music on my ipod.

yes you can. I may not see the actual files as they'd appear on say an external HD but in iTunes, I can add and remove music and videos at will.

You need to create playlists and then sync them. Same with photo albums.

Learn how to use smart playlists. They are amazing.
Here's a list of some of mine for ideas.

    100 Highest Rated
Ben Folds Top 25 most played
    Coldplay Top 25 most played
Dave matthews top 25 most played
    Never skipped
Not recently played favorites (songs that havent been played in the past week, but playcount is over 10)
    played songs
    played 5 times or more
    top 50 most played
unplayed songs (don't sync this playlist)

wow.. I didnt know... that sucks!

There is no reason why the ipod should have these features and the phone shouldnt.. Same with the leopardesque dock.. surely they should fix this in a firmware - they should have already.

Thanks for the ideas, I skip Apples smart features way too often.
