Right now i'm a pc user, but i'm going to be purchasing a mac laptop for college in the coming months. I should probally get an ipod just because it will work flawlessly on both (not at the same time of course), but i still want to know what other non-apple players will work on a mac and a pc. thanks

You will need to look at the other mp3 players out there and check if they are compatable with your PC or not. The iPod is an amazing product and you would be nothing but happy with if you went out and got it along side your new Mac laptop. You honestly get what you pay for when you get Apple products.

    Look up mp3 players.

I'm sure 90% on this board are using an iPod.

iPod makes sense for mac users mostly because there is a lot more value added with the way it's integrated into the OS. I use it as a backup drive for e-mail, address book contacts, etc., something that apple has allowed with free OS X apps like iSync. You can't do this on a PC... so in a way, the iPod was the only serious consideration for me (and probably most mac or mac/pc users) :dunno: it just works.

But yeah admittedly I didn't look very hard when I bought mine either because I saw how the others looked and I was turned off; at that point most were either USB1 and shitty or expensive, big, USB2 (and I don't have USB2 on my computer so that was fucked).

yeah, that seems to be what i am reading. the integration i think may be the sole reason why i decide to get an ipod. however i must say that i like the creative zen touch alot, just no mac support :wtc:. i guess ipod it is

play with it for a few minutes and you won't be sorry :bigthumb: and honestly, in my experience the apple user interface and build quality are a cut above anything else out there, no competition. Creative's devices feel like toys to me :hsugh:

iPod is your best bet still. If you format it on a PC first, it will work be recognized when you plug it into a Mac or PC. Coming in here asking about any MP3 player other then the iPod is like going into McDonalds and asking them to recommend you any food other then theirs. Maybe you should try Google next time.

FM transmitters are meh at best but the most universal. If there was an optional CD changer on your car, you can go in through there. There are a few companies that make connections from RCA into the stock deck from RCA cables. Then all you need is the iPod to RCA connector from Monster.

If you want something better, you can drop in an Alpine iPod friendly set up($500 area) that let's you control and display songs with the new headunit. There is an option that Macster submitted that will require a good $400 investment, but it seems to be the best with stock head units and comes with an extra screen and controls. Lastly, there is the untimate iPod headunit from Clarion that has a flip up 7" LCD with CD/DVD/FM/AM/MP3/iPod abilities. It will put both the iPod wheel and diplay up on the touch LCD so you can control it like an iPod.
